Coming up with a travel budget can be hard because you’re not sure where to start, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a travel budget! Everyone needs to come up with a budget strategy for their vacations, whether you’re wealthy or stressed about money.
Peace of Mind
Having a travel budget, or even just getting a general handle on what you’ll be spending throughout your trip will help give you peace of mind. If you’re constantly thinking, “Can I afford this expensive meal?” you won’t be savoring your meal or your moment!
A little work on the front end can make a world of difference on the trip and post trip.
I promise, if you take an hour or two (or hire me) to create a flexible travel budget based on your general habits and desires for the trip, it will change so much for your vacation. Some people go into their vacation and set a number, “Ok, we have $4500 for this trip” and then they don’t allot that number to any categories. Then they blow their budget or get frustrated when they spend 2K on flights, 2K on accommodation, and have no money left for activities or fancy restaurants. It’s important to allot your budget and have some wiggle room in each area. This is something I can help you achieve with my design services.

Freedom
Knowing you’re not going to be in immense debt when you return from a trip can really give you a sense of freedom on your vacation. You can enjoy every moment without the stress of money holding you down.
Knowledge
When you create a budget for your travel experience, you will inevitably learn what things in that place should cost from accommodations to food. You should learn the exchange rate to make sure you head into the trip with a handle on money. When you jump into a vacation without a travel budget, you show up and spend leisurely and you’ll likely spend more than you wanted to. Especially if you don’t know the exchange rate or what a good price looks like in foreign currency, you’re more likely to throw caution to the wind. Sometimes, that’s fun, but we’re grown ups now and we need to be able to return from our vacation without a ton of stress and guilt about money.
Flexibility
Having a budget seems uptight but it can really offer you flexibility in your plans. Having a certain amount to spend for accommodation, and then not spending that much means you can move that extra money over to activities or restaurants. As you slowly make your plans, you’ll eventually see that travel budget play out. Maybe you have your sight set on flights for less than $800 but swoop in and grab some perfect flights for $500. Now you have an extra $300 to spend elsewhere!
Take a look at your actual desires and learn to prioritize
Creating a travel budget will force you to look at what you want to prioritize on your trip. Are you massive foodies? Do you want to go sky diving? Do you want to stay in the nicest hotel and just relax? Everyone has different vacation priorities and creating your budget will help you figure out what is most important to you on your trip.
